SUMMARY

Open Up is a new resource that can help you think about how to make your museum relevant to people who don’t currently visit and take action that will increase your visitor numbers, improve your resilience and better fulfil your organisation’s purpose.

Open Up was created by Julie Aldridge, Mel Larsen and Pam Jarvis, to help museums understand why some groups of people are under-represented amongst visitors to museums, especially people from less affluent households, disabled people and people from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background.

Open Up began in 2017 at the initiation of the Association of Independent Museums and as a partnership between AIM, Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund, Museums Association, Museums Galleries Scotland, National Museums Northern Ireland and the Welsh Government.
