Podcast: Hannah Hethmon – podcasting for connection at Smithsonian
Lucy Jamieson, Head of Programme at the AMA talks to Podcast Producer, Hannah Hethmon, Better Lemon Creative Audio about using podcasts to connect with people's stories. Including advice on planning, key tools and processes. One of a series of AMAculturehive podcasts commissioned for The Learning Lounge, AMA Arts Marketing Festival 2020.
In 2019, Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street program commissioned Hannah Hethmon to turn hundreds of audio stories about water into a coherent podcast series to extend the community-focused mission of their travelling exhibition, Water/Ways.
Hannah talks about how Smithsonian's Stories from Main Street podcast was made and what organisations around the world can learn from it about creating podcasts that foster connection and empathy in an age of division and discord.
Along the way Hannah talks about planning a podcast, the processes involved and low-cost tools to get you started. We also hear about how small stories can become powerful and a little bit about Nicholas Alfonzo, a Crabber from Louisiana.
