New ACE Funding comes on stream

New ACE Funding comes on stream

By Hannah Mason

Arts Council England’s new funding streams are now online. 'Lottery Project Grants' supersedes Grants for the Arts whilst 'Developing your Creative Practice' (DYCP) is a new grant designed to support independent creative practitioners.

ACE has changed the way it invests in the arts, to develop a vibrant cultural sector. They have adapted Grants for the Arts, creating Project Grants for arts, museums and libraries wanting to develop projects that support individual artists, community and cultural organisations. In addition, Developing your Creative Practice (DYCP) is for individuals or small groups of collaborators, to support a raft of activities which will enhance their practice through research, mentoring and space to create new work. Artists and creative professionals can apply for grants between £2k and £10k and can take up to a year on their projects. The first of the four quarterly rounds will open on 12 April 2018.

DYCP creative practitioners’ includes dancers, choreographers, writers, translators, producers, publishers, editors, musicians, conductors, composers, actors, directors, designers, artists, craft makers, and curators. They will support creative practitioners doing work related to the supported artforms and disciplines listed below.

Project Grants are open now and range from £1k to £100k, similar to the old G4A grants. This new funding stream is ACE’s open-access programme for arts, museums and libraries projects.

"The programme helps us to achieve our mission, ‘Great art and culture for everyone’. It allows us to support a broad range of not-for-profit projects that create and sustain quality work and help people across England to engage with arts and culture. The programme supports development by allowing artists, cultural practitioners and organisations to work in new ways and to get their work out to new audiences."

Like G4A the programme is always open and has a quick turnaround, where an application for £15,000 or under will receive a decision in 6 weeks and over £15,000 a decision will take 12 weeks.

Both programmes support projects focused on the following artforms and disciplines:

  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Dance
  • Visual arts
  • Literature
  • Combined arts
  • Museum practice
  • Project Grants Only -Libraries (arts-focused projects only)
