The results of the third Heritage Panel survey from thrive, Northern Ireland's audience development agency. The Heritage Panel tracks audience’s views on returning to heritage, what has changed, what has stayed the same and what their attitudes are.
The third survey of the Heritage Panel ran from 1st February to 1st March 2022.
Summary of findings
- 82% have visited indoor heritage which is higher than Panel 1 (73%). However, 18% have still not been back to indoor heritage. Covid anxiety or Covid measures were the main reasons.
- Despite more people returning to built heritage, frequency is lower than pre-Covid with 67% visiting less often.
- 45% of people who have returned to indoor heritage felt completely safe which is lower than Panel 1 (58%). 7% said they felt completely unsafe.
- Over 90% had visited natural heritage with 1 in 4 visiting more often than before Covid. However, there was also an increase in people saying they were visiting natural heritage less often than before Covid (35%).

The Heritage Panel is made of 146 heritage attenders in Northern Ireland who will be surveyed every two months until May 2022. Culture Beyond Covid for Heritage is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
