Hanesydd cymdeithasol a diwylliannol mewn perthynas â’r Brydain fodern yw Patrick, ac mae’n ymchwilio i gerddoriaeth boblogaidd, y diwydiannau diwylliannol, y cyfryngau, a chynulleidfaoedd y diwylliant poblogaidd. Cyn mynd i weithio i Ysgol y Diwydiannau Perfformio a Diwylliannol ym Mhrifysgol Leeds, bu’n gweithio ym Mhrifysgol Wolverhampton, Prifysgol Salford, Coleg Prifysgol Llundain, Prifysgol Sheffield (lle cafodd PhD mewn Hanes), a Phrifysgol Dwyrain Llundain lle bu’n addysgu Hanes, Cerddoriaeth ac Astudiaethau Diwylliannol.
Mae Patrick yn awdur ar ‘Youth and Permissive Social Change in British Music Papers, 1967-1983’ (Palgrave Studies in the History of Subcultures and Popular Music, 2019), ynghyd â nifer o erthyglau a phenodau mewn llyfrau. Hefyd, mae Patrick wedi cyfrannu gwaith newyddiadurol at y Tribune, y Guardian a Loud & Quiet, ac mae’n gerddor DIY lled-broffesiynol.
