We’re excited to announce that the Digital Marketing Academy will launch on Thursday 26 June. The project will kick off with a welcome from Chair of Arts Council England, Sir Peter Bazalgette, at an online launch event for the mentors and fellows.
Three leading international digital marketing and technology practitioners will then present provocations: Jon Drori (Thoughtsmith, UK), Joost Heijthuijsen (Incubate, NL) and Devon Smith (Threespot, USA) are at the forefront of finding new ways of working to reach and engage more people, more often. Videos of the three provocations will be published on this site following the launch.
Sir Peter Bazalgette is Chair of Arts Council England and former Chair of English National Opera. In TV he is the president of The Royal Television Society, served as the Chief Creative Officer of Endemol, on the Board of Channel 4 and devised several internationally successful television formats. He was also a non-executive director of DCMS.
Joost is director of external affairs of the Incubate Festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands. It has been described as “One of Europe’s best music and arts festivals.” He has an international reputation for his innovative approach to putting the audience at the heart of digital marketing. He has developed concepts like the Social Festival based on ‘Wikinomics’ to achieve collaboration in an open-source business model, and Loyal Class, a multiple award-winning digital loyalty program that stimulates audience conversation and participation.
Devon Smith is the director of social media and analytics at Threespot, a digital engagement agency in Washington, D.C. She one of the six Digital Marketing Academy mentors. At Threespot, Devon leads a staff of social media managers and digital analysts who help clients build long-term, high-value relationships with their constituents and measure the impact of those connections. She has recently led engagements with clients such as the Smithsonian Institution, BBC America and UNICEF.
Jon is a founding partner of Thoughtsmith, and works with the boards of national arts and science bodies on creative, technical and business strategy to engage new audiences. He is also one of the six Digital Marketing Academy mentors. A trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Woodland Trust, and Wildscreen, Jon is Chairman of the UK Parliament’s Advisory Council on Public Engagement and works with NESTA on digital education and start-up businesses. Jon wrote the DCMS report on Encouraging Digital Access and co-authored a recent set of recommendations to the Arts Council of England on digital marketing.
Carol Jones is the Principal and Project Manager of the CultureHive Digital Marketing Academy. She is an independent cultural consultant, trainer and lecturer and an associate of The Ticketing Institute, an international group that provides resources and advice on new developments in ticketing, CRM and digital and social integration. Carol is also Associate Manager Wales for The Audience Agency.
